King Arthur has been mentioned numerous times in literature, one of the first was in the British poem Gododdin written in the 6th century he is mentioned indirectly when one of the soldiers was praised for fighting bravely, "though he was no arthur." He is also mentioned as leading the British victory at the Battle of Mount Badon in the Historia Brittanum a British book from the 8th century. The Annales Cambriae, a chroncile of Welsh history written in the 9th century also mentions Arthur at the Battle of Badon, where it says, "The Battle of Badon, in which Arthur carried the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ on his shoulders for three days and three nights and the Britons were the victors." it also says, " The strife of Camlann in which Arthur and Medraut fell, and there was death in Britain and in Ireland." These are thought to be some of the most historically accurate depictions of Arthur but undoubtedly the most famous story is the History of the Kings of Britain by Geoffrey of Monmouth. Geoffreys book was a fictional history of King Arthur that he put out as fact. It is the story of King Arthur and the Knights of The Round Table that we know today. The monarchs of the era took a liking to the book and their endorsments made it famous.
